Opened in 2014, King Abdullah Sports City — affectionately known as “The Jewel” — is one of the largest and most modern stadiums in Saudi Arabia. It serves as the home ground of Al Ittihad FC and has hosted iconic matches, concerts, and global events. With a capacity of over 60,000, it stands as a symbol of Jeddah’s sporting pride.
The history of King Abdullah Sports City
On December 26, 1927, Al-Ittihad Club was founded in Jeddah by prominent football fans who aimed to create a team to compete with traveling squads and provide entertainment and opportunities for the city's youth.
2012
Construction begins
Jeddah’s new stadium, designed by Arup, began construction in 2012.
2014
Stadium opens
On May 1 2014, the stadium hosted the King’s Cup final, where Al-Shabab beat Al-Ahli 3–0.
